Washington, DC (MMD Newswire) March 15, 2011 -- Shauna Anderson, long known as "The Queen of Chitlins" in Washington DC, launches "Offal Great: A Memoir From the Queen of Chitlins" on Kindle and other eBooks. Shauna and co-author Elizabeth Place have formed Ager Road Productions in anticipation of producing the screen adaptation. The Memoir which was first reviewed by Walter Nicholls in the Washington Post in 2006 has now gained attention from the local and national film community.

Shauna plans to film exclusively in the District and employ only local film production professionals, students, and actors. The film version of her story will feature her beautiful city of Washington DC as backdrop to her story.

Shauna Anderson Queen of Chitlins

Love, Chitlins, Politics, and Shady Dealings in the Washington Metro Area: Shauna grew up in DC during the 1960's, in public housing, under the thumb of an abusive aunt. Traumatic abuse resulted in a multiple personality disorder that went undiagnosed until Shauna was in her 50's. But Shauna used her many personalities to her benefit and grabbed every opportunity that came her way. Washington DC was a constant inspiration in Shauna's life, from her first solo bus ride at age seven down Delaware Avenue in Southwest DC, to her first job at the IRS, to real estate ventures around the city and her Chitlin Restaurants in the Northeast corner of DC. Shauna faced what seemed to be insurmountable odds and always with an amazing sense of humor. The characters in her memoir are bigger than life - caring, corrupt, conniving, famous, and infamous. From politicians to sports heroes to religious leaders - Shauna reveals behind the scene antics of the city's power brokers. Shauna's Washington DC is a wild, wild city of good and evil.

Shauna's book has been an inspiration to her customers and other readers. Now Shauna hopes to reach many more with her film debut: "The Queen of Chitlins".

Austin, Texas (MMD Newswire) April 8, 2011 -- FunToons LLC, an animation company founded by Disney veteran, Greg Manwaring, today announced the opening of its offices in Austin, at 7703 N. Lamar Boulevard.

FunToons (www.funtoons.biz) creates animated feature films, television shows and ancillary products. "We create top quality entertainment for the whole family - from classical musicals to cutting-edge action adventures, said company CEO, Greg Manwaring.

The decision to invest and create jobs in Austin came about because of the city's growing, vibrant economy, business and family friendly environments, and because of the local talent pool. Austin has always been in Manwaring's mind because of the likes of Dell, Tarantino, Rodriguez, Bullock, McConaughey, SXSW and finally Harry Knowles and his "Ain't it Cool" website.

Manwaring has animated on such modern classics as "The Lion King", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and cult favorite "Iron Giant". Additionally, he helped create episodes of "The Ren and Stimpy Show" and "Family Guy". Some of his most recent work was seen in the 2010 Oscar nominated, "The Illusionist". After directing multiple television series and a feature film on behalf of other studios, Manwaring is focused on producing FunToons' own original content, both for television and the silver screen.

The first project to be undertaken at the Austin facility is "Kris Kringle", a whimsical Christmas film, in 3D, being executive produced by Frank Marshall ("The Sixth Sense", "The Bourne Identity"). Recording star Michael Bolton (Disney's "Aladdin") will produce the musical numbers for the film, which will open in cinemas worldwide on Thanksgiving 2013. FunToons (www.funtoons.biz) will follow this in 2014 with the very wacky, murder-mystery, "9 Lives".

Austin's venture into F1 racing just happens to coincide with the company's planned production of "Kart Kids", a Saturday morning TV show featuring a go-kart gang of kids being mentored by F1 legend, Michael Schumacher.

FunToons will soon offer an animation course to help develop future animation talent. "Teaching animation has always been a passion of mine. It's rewarding to pass on the lessons I've learned to the next generation." says Manwaring, who, true to his word, in March, gave a one hour lecture, to the animation class at McCallum High School in Austin, together with his friend and Pixar veteran, David Fulp.

May 23, 2011 (MMD Newswire) -- New York International Pictures, an Indie film company, has hired Chapa to write, produce and direct the first and only biopic about the life of Dominique Strauss-Kahn and the controversy surrounding the alleged rape charges.

Chapa says the film will be titled: MONEY MAN - The Unauthorized story of Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Chapa won the Best Director and Best Drama awards at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival for his feature film Brando Unauthorized, in which he played Marlon Brando and directed himself along with his son Ricco Chapa in the role of Christian Brando.

Chapa also won for Best Production at the Indie Fest for his feature film Polanski Unauthorized, a film that late Hollywood legend David Carradine called a "masterpiece."

Chapa says The Strauss-Kahn controversy is something he found compelling from the beginning and that the story will be based on facts and court documents only.

Damian Chapa is best known for his lead role of Miklo Velka in the cult classic Blood In Blood Out, which garnered a Best Director award for Taylor Hackford at the Tokyo Film Festival.

Controversial Take on R-Word is Spot On

$

City Island, NY (MMD Newswire) May 24, 2011 -- Spot On Productions is excited to announce their support in the release of a new public service announcement (PSA) by an on-going campaign from Special Olympics and Best Buddies called "Spread the Word to End the Word®" which seeks to eliminate the derogatory use of the word "retard(ed)" and promote the inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by taking an online pledge at www.r-word.org.

This hard-hitting :30 television PSA called "Not Acceptable" was directed by Spot On's Frank Mosca and gives voice to a variety of diverse communities, each of whom expresses that the offensive, targeted slurs that are, or once were, commonly directed toward them are not acceptable. It culminates in actress and self-advocate Lauren Potter from Fox's "Glee" stating that it is equally unacceptable to use the word "retard(ed)" toward people with IDD or in casual conversation. She and "Glee" co-star Jane Lynch make a call to action to stop using the R-word and to promote the acceptance and inclusion of people with IDD.

"We weren't scared of the controversial script. It was appropriate for conveying the point. We believe in the cause," said Mosca. "The PSA contains a serious tone throughout, and has an everyday feel with shots from a Laundromat, deli, park bench, office, and a grocery store. We chose to put people in everyday situations to show that it could be anyone that is hurt by words. We also stayed away from more flashy elements and music so the words stood out above all else. We wanted to make the words prominent and impactful to drive the message home that words have power and our choice of language affects everyone around us."

To date, several networks have committed to airing this powerful and compelling PSA including Fox and a majority of their cable channels and regional sports networks, MTV, USA Network and Turner networks including TNT, TBS, truTV and CNN.

"Not Acceptable" was executive produced by Jim Serpico and Tom Sellitti of New York based Apostle. The PSA was shot in City Island, NY on the Canon 5D by Director of Photography, Christopher Walters and edited by Spot On's own Stephen Franciosa Jr. http://www.alwaysspoton.com

OSHA issues hazard alert on the dangers of using scissor lifts to film events

$
0
0
WASHINGTON (MMD Newswire) July 6, 2011 - - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today issued a hazard alert about the dangers of using scissor lifts to film events and functions. Scissor lifts are portable, hydraulic-powered lifts that are commonly used by colleges and high schools to film athletic and band activities.

Last October, a 20-year-old University of Notre Dame student employee was killed while filming the team's football practice from a scissor lift that was blown over by high winds. The worker, who reportedly was not trained to properly operate the equipment, raised the lift more than 39 feet into the air on a day in which winds exceeded 50 miles per hour.

The alert lists hazards associated with scissor lifts such as using the equipment during high winds or bad weather; overloading the equipment with heavy objects; removing the guardrails during operation; and driving the lift on uneven or unstable ground.

Employers can minimize scissor lift hazards by establishing safe work practices, including inspecting the lift before use; safely moving, positioning, and stabilizing the lift; selecting safe work locations; and identifying weather conditions that prevent use. Additional key safety practices include putting the scissor lift on a firm level surface, setting brakes and stabilizing the lift before raising it, and maintaining a 10 foot clearance from electrical power sources and overhead hazards such as tree branches.

Hazards can be further reduced by training workers on how to operate scissor lifts safely, making sure that the scissor lift has a guardrail system for fall protection, and operating and maintaining the lift according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

OSHA's Scaffolding eTool and Safety and Health Topics page on Scaffolding provide additional guidance on the hazards and requirements for using scissor lifts. OSHA also provides free On-Site Consultation for small business employers who want to create or improve their safety and health management systems. Employers can visit OSHA's Web site to find the closest OSHA Consultation Office or call 1-800-321-6742. Additionally, local OSHA offices also have Compliance Assistance Specialists who can provide employers with information about the agency's standards and compliance assistance resources. Additional information on Workers' Rights and Employer Responsibilities is available on OSHA's Workers Page.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA's role is to ensure these conditions for America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education and assistance. Get Ready Hollywood, Prince Gharios is the new generation, martial arts - action hero.....from Brazil

Beverly Hills, CA (MMD Newswire) August 4, 2011 -- Prince Gharios is no ordinary Prince. For the past ten years, he has remained quiet and in the back shadows of entertainment, with his first priority being an advocate for democracy, while reclaiming his family's royal legacy, "The Kingdom of Ghassan," (An Arab Christian nation.) After years of choosing to be under the radar, Prince Gharios has now emerged, after quietly pursuing his passion for acting, by appearing in several commercial, television programs and movies in Brazil using a pseudonym.

Fast forward to the present, Prince Gharios has now arrived in Hollywood, and is ready to make some noise! For beneath his armor, is an action packed resume, full of excitement, and intrigue.

He can compete as an expert martial artists, on the same level as other Hollywood favorites, including: Jean Claude Van Dam, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and newcomer Jason Statham. He started in Judo at the age of four, and today, is a 4th Degree of Black belt in Aikido and also holds black belts in Karate and Kobudo. For five years, Prince Gharios trained with Martial arts Master Steven Seagal, who is an actual master of Aikido and other martial arts.

PRINCE GHARIOS  PRINCE GHARIOS

Quote PG: "I wanted to train with Steven Seagal because in the Aikido world he's reputed to be one of the best. What I learned was a very effective and real method that I still use in my practice."

But Prince Gharios' Martial arts and acting interests don't stop there. He has several Doctorate degrees, is classically trained in Shakespeare, is a professional singer in 5 languages, and even writes some of the movies he would like to appear in.

Quote PG: "I strongly believe the veterans like Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone have paved the way for newcomers like me, they are "the masters" of the genre. That there is a new generation of incredible actors who are trying to follow their footsteps which isn't an easy task..."

So for Prince Gharios who has been incognito up until this point, and who has also refrained from using his title for "special leverage," he has definitely paid his dues, and is now ready to hit the big screen!

October 20, 2011 (MMD Newswire) -- Can you show the world what you can do in only 180 seconds? Spin the System, and submit to the 180 Microcinema Festival.

180 Microcinema Festival is seeking submissions for its first International celebration of short films. The selected films will be available on the web starting January 7, 2011.

Founded in 2009, the 180 Microcinema Festival seeks to celebrate and reward filmmakers across the world who embrace unique and unorthodox approaches to filmmaking. The festival celebrates the range and diversity of filmmakers in an interconnected world, emphasizing emerging technologies such as mobile devices and digital media in film production and distribution.

"We wanted to create a virtual space for a film festival where geography and physical distance would not be a constraint," says founder Vicente Nakpil-Roxas. "The films are only three minutes long, so aside from tackling a creative challenge, these filmmakers sidestep the high costs inherent in creating a full-length feature." The Festival seeks to showcase both established and undiscovered filmmakers by utilizing social media to share these films with a worldwide audience.

Microcinema Festival

Filmmakers are encouraged to embrace "transmedia," a style of filmmaking that encourages interaction with the audience, specifically through the internet, social media, and online venues.

Winners will be awarded a Transmedia Development Deal worth $30,000. Roxas stated that this deal, coupled with sponsorships and crowdsourcing campaigns initiated by the Festival, will allow a filmmaker to create more projects. "The Festival enables filmmakers to hone their craft, promote their work, and interact with a global audience."

The first cycle of the 180 Microcinema Festival is seeking submissions for the Narrative category. Filmmakers and students that are at least 18 years old from every country are eligible to participate. Complete rules and requirements can be found at 180cinema.net.

Submissions must be delivered electronically by December 15, 2011. Submissions can be made through the website, and there is a fee of $10 per film.

CoOpFilm Productions saving Jaime Falero's ''El Clan'' and hoping to take it international

"The Gang" is all here (and looking for investors and distributors)

Victoria, Mahé, Republic of Seychelles (MMD Newswire) December 15, 2011 - Seychelles-based independent movie Company CoOpFilm Productions has stepped forward to "rescue" the action/thriller "El Clan" ("The Gang"), proving that sometimes the story behind the camera is almost as dramatic and intriguing as the one in front of it. As is the case with many indie films, funding for production of "El Clan" has been a challenge. But the creative minds behind this fast-paced tale, which takes place somewhere in the 1930s, have believed strongly in their project from the beginning, and are determined to see it to completion and help it find the international audience it deserves. Along with Film! CanaryIslands (FCI), Lou Di Giorgio, co-producer with Norbert A. Schilling of FCI and main investor of "EL CLAN" has provided funding thus far, and it's probably no exaggeration to say that CoOpFilm Productions, , has helped save "El Clan" from oblivion.

Lou Di Giorgio, a cinematography veteran, has been investing in new film technology since 2004. Besides contributing hundreds of thousands of US dollars to fund "El Clan," and co-producing also Nersas Ferrera's "The Lupano's Decision", he has rented equipment such as RED ONE digital cinematography cameras and accessories to FCI. He has helped the teams gain confidence in the use of this innovative technology, which allows cost-efficient production without compromising quality. Says Di Giorgio, "We're really excited about 'El Clan,' because it was a labor of love for so many of us. But it takes more than love to market a film to an international audience. We're still actively seeking additional investors who want to be part of a worthwhile and potentially very lucrative film project. We also need distributors for international release."

He says that post-production of "El Clan" should be completed in April of 2012, and if the film is accepted, it could conceivably have its world premiere at the International Film Festival of Locarno in Switzerland, or perhaps in Venice or Rome. "Of course we hope the public will like it and we can pick up a distributor to market 'El Clan' worldwide," says Di Giorgio.

"El Clan" is the third film shot this year on the island of Tenerife by FCI, after the "Clash of the Titans II" shot by WB. Before "El Clan", FCI also produced the movies "Montevideo" and the "The Lupanos' Decision. "El Clan" was shot in only 22 days on fourteen locations in Tenerife between Puerto de la Cruz and San Cristobal de la Laguna, "El Clan," directed by Jaime Falero, accurately recreates the troubled years of the 30s. It's vaguely reminiscent of films such as "Road to Perdition" (Sam Mendes, 2002) and "Hostel" (Eli Roth, 2005), but with some advanced special effects designed by FX Inside.

A point of pride for the filmmakers, Di Giorgio notes, is that "El Clan" was made with very limited resources without any sacrifice of quality, and it was completed in only a few months. "We couldn't have done it without the free support of dozens of enthusiastic people," he says. "Everyone worked together, and the result is a shocking action-thriller movie that viewers all over the world will eat up."

Lou Di Giorgio also acknowledges the support and sponsorship of the Council of Tenerife (the governing body of the Island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands), as well as the people of Tenerife, for their support of this project. "And," he says, "I really want to acknowledge the director of photography, Santiago Torres, for the awesome image quality, composer Diego Navarro for the beautiful music, and, of course, Jaime Falero for great direction and a wonderful script, which was written in collaboration with the very talented Pedro J. Mérida." The combined factors of outstanding direction, excellent acting, first-rate cinematography, and haunting music will give 'El Clan' maximum emotional impact, Di Giorgio believes.

Di Giorgio adds that this is perhaps the first time in Europe that a totally commercial indie movie was produced entirely with private capital. CoOpFilm Productions got involved with this project in the first place because we believe 'El Clan' has such a strong potential for international success," he adds.

Now the challenge is to get 'El Clan' in theaters worldwide. Di Giorgio says, "We're thinking big. 'El Clan' could be a small film with a limited European audience, or a TV movie that is forgotten by next week. Or it could be an internationally acclaimed motion picture, seen in theaters worldwide and ultimately enjoyed on a wide range of media such as iTunes and DVD. We at CoOpFilm Productions are shooting for the international/multimedia option, because we think this movie deserves the absolute widest audience possible. All that's missing right now are the investors and distributors who can help us take it to the top."
