The Welsh film 'Risen' will have a world premiere at the World Boxing Council's 'Night of Champions' international boxing festival, to be held in Cardiff

Wales, UK (MMD Newswire) MAY 19, 2010 -- The film, described by the BBC as "one of the greatest films in Welsh and British history," will kick off the festival, with celebrity stars from the silver screen and boxing ring in attendance -- including over 100 former boxing champions from around the world, celebrating every era of boxing over the past 50 years.

Even more spectacularly, with about 4,000 people attending, the premiere is expected to write itself into film history by beating the 'Lord of the Rings' world record.

'Risen' tells the story of Welsh boxer Howard Winstone who fought in the 60s and was unique in that he lost the fingers of his right hand in a childhood accident meaning he couldn't make a proper fist. He overcame this handicap to become a world champion and his difficult path to the top of the boxing world provides for compelling and emotional storytelling. 'Risen' is the first Welsh film to ever world premiere in Wales, another story in itself.

The WBC Night of Champions is a 3-day festival, opening with the film, and followed with the first-ever GB v Rest of the World boxing tournament featuring the boxing stars of tomorrow, and a gala awards ceremony on the third night featuring possibly the greatest collection ever of boxing talent, with over 1000 stars, including champions such as David Haye, Roberto Duran, the Klitschko brothers, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Nigel Benn, Lennox Lewis, Leon Spinks and dozens more.
